Unique Home in Adirondack State Park
I’m always looking for unique places to visit when I go on vacation. Whether it’s a restaurant, boutique hotel, tour, shopping – I love to get the most out of my trips!
That being said, this interesting home caught my eye because it’s currently on the market. The owners suggest it be transformed into a B&B or restaurant of some type. Perfect since it’s located in Adirondack State Park near Lake Placid, offering plenty of fun, outdoorsy adventures to take.
Here’s the catch, though. It used to be a missile silo during the Cold War! This photo below captures the property in the 1960s in its original state – clearly not the ideal location to residence or vacation, right?

Now check out this artistic rendition of the renovated home. You’ll see the above ground house that connects to the underground silo that once housed a missile. This 20,000 square feet of space has been partially renovated – above and below!

Photos below show the above ground property, which includes a landing strip for small planes. Nestled in the forest, this home looks like any cabin you’d find in the woods. Except for the stairs leading downward through heavy metal blast doors.

The underground silo complex currently has two completed levels; it’s these levels that used to be the control room for the missile pad. The attached, deeper silo has plenty of space to be renovated for additional rooms and entertainment. Wood floors, tile and granite counter tops now take the place of what once used to be a deep metal abyss equipped with control rooms and an Atlas-F missile.

The potential for this home is really endless. An interior design and architect team could come in and take what the owners have started to a whole new level. So, if you have $2.3 million cash and are looking for a fun project…check out the Silo Home.
